Tarpley Music Rental/Purchase Plan
Tarpley Music Company has developed a great, low-risk rental/purchase plan to help you and your child get started in music. Probably the greatest worry we hear from parents is paying a lot for an instrument only to have their child not stay in band or orchestra. We believe our rental/purchase plan relieves that concern and many others.

Rental/Purchase Plan Basics
Getting Started
You will first select a term and pay monthly on the instrument of your choice. If you pay through the term of your rental agreement, the title of the instrument will pass to you. You then will own the instrument.
Terms
Rental/Purchase plan terms are 18, 24, and 36 months. Payments are evenly distributed throughout the term of your agreement. Your total lease fee is divided by the duration of your plan and an equal amount is applied to your payment each month - we do not charge you interest that begins higher at the start and works its way down over the term. There are no hidden fees. Our contract details your complete payment schedule - how much you are paying for the instrument, taxes, lease fees and what the total will be if paid to completion.
If your child drops out of band or orchestra during the rental term, you can return the instrument to us and end any further obligation. With our plan, you are only responsible for the months you actually had the instrument.
Exchanges
What if your child starts with a clarinet but after a few weeks decides she wants a flute? No problem. During the first 15 months of the rental period you can exchange the instrument you have for another band or orchestra instrument of equal or greater value. The rental/purchase plan keeps rolling - you do not lose any of the principal you have paid, and there is no fee for the exchange. However, the monthly payment amount may change, depending upon the price of the new instrument.
Trade Ups
What if your child is excelling in music and you want to get him a higher-quality instrument? No problem. You can "trade up" your rental/purchase instrument for a higher quality instrument. You simply return your rental instrument to us and trade for a higher quality band or orchestra instrument.
Early Payment
If you pay off your account within the first 90 days of the contract, we will rebate your lease fees paid up to that point. And of course if you pay off your lease early at any time during the rental/purchase period there is no early payoff charge, plus all future lease fees are waived. You pay just the principal and tax balance.
Service and Maintenance Policy
Tarpley Music offers an optional service and maintenance policy during your rental/purchase period. It is a small fee, paid each month, that will cover all service and maintenance (or replacement if needed) which has been necessitated by normal use of the instrument. It also covers loss due to theft and fire. It does not cover negligence or damage to or replacement of accessory items. (See one of our stores for more details.)
You can also buy a service and maintenance policy in 3, 6, or 12 month blocks if you purchase an instrument for cash or after you pay off your rental instrument. It is the same policy, except loss due to theft and fire is not covered.
Automatic Draft
We can draft your checking account or bill your credit card (Visa, MC, Discover, Amex) for your monthly payment. You can avoid writing checks and mailing payments plus you will SAVE 5% per payment!
Cash Purchase
What if you decide to buy the instrument outright and your child drops out of music? No problem. If you return the instrument within one year of purchase we will "buy back" your instrument. We will pay the amount you paid less monthly rental (based on 18 month rates) of time the instrument was in your possession (with a 2 month minimum).
Tarpley Music Straight Rental Plan
Also available from Tarpley Music (Amarillo location only) is a straight rental plan. This plan allows six (6) months of payments to apply toward purchase and normally provides a lower monthly rental cost than the rental/purchase plan. This plan is especially beneficial for fractional-size string instruments that a child will outgrow and then need to exchange for a larger size. Ask an associate at our Amarillo store for more details.
